Headlines - journalists always exagerate them to get you to read the article. The one I'm talking about now is a RollingStone news article titled "Bjork Disses Bob Dylan". And I actually thought she said something shockingly disrespectful. I know this phrase gets thrown around a lot by everyone these days and has gotten pretty annoying, but "she just expressed her opinion". The fact that I'm defending her has nothing to do with me being a fan of her and her music. The truth is that she didn't say anything all that shocking and insulting, and because Dylan is highly esteemed in the music world, expressing that you don't particularly enjoy listening to him gets everyone uncomfortable.
After reading the newsflash, what followed were reader's comments. There were those who screamed "Yay, Bjork!" and encouraged her to speak her mind. And there were others who defended Bob Dylan and put her down for "disrespecting" him. Her little comment sparked comparisons between herself and Dylan. It's all nonsense to me. They are too different to be compared. And saying that Dylan has been permanently ingrained in the history of music the way Bjork will never be is just preposterous. Dylan has been around longer than her. Who knows how many more years she'll make music and how many more great albums she'll put out. The future has a habit of offering us unexpected outcomes. Maybe in a few years, Bjork will be revered even more by both critics and futuristic youth dressed even more eccentrically than Japanese street kids who will be listening to her and emulating her style. Nevertheless, she's already proven herself a great artist and is respected by many today.
As I said before, the readers comments were the usual - people defending one or the other. One comment actually made sense. Well, not really, but you know. And here's today's Quote of the Day:
"She is icelandic, so am I and people in Iceland are weird and we eat sheep heads and whale meat. Whale is just a big cow swimming in the ocean. And we like it when stupid americans and swedish people don´t aggree with us
That's exactly what I'm saying, let us stop fighting and all go for a picnic in Iceland. lol The "whale is just a big cow swimming in the ocean" part made me laugh so hard.
Mental note: Even though I have a few Dylan albums, he's still on my list of musicians worth exploring more. I need to remind myself all the time about that list. :(

I happen to worship Bobby Dylan and it is a no-no to say anything negative about is Bobness, that said, Bjork is pretty great, only love in her direction.

I very much doubt that bjork will EVER achieve the same respect that Dylan has achieved for the past 40 odd years. Dylan is a lyrical genius and bjork is a strange pop figure. Bjork has found her queer icelandic quirkiness and Dylan is ever-changing.
