M

I finally got myself to paint for the possible job illustrating a children's book. As usual I procrastinated a lot. But I set myself the goal to photograph whatever I had done on the 11th so I'd send a few days before the 15th (like they asked). So I painted diligently on Monday and Tuesday. And with the help of my mom's "fewer hugs for the girls who don't paint" tactic, I got it done, and we went to photograph the painting in a studio.

They asked me to draw a trial illustration based on strictly set ideas that they wanted for a picture book about the alphabet. I chose to illustrate the letter M. and was supposed to draw two girls holding hands to form the letter. I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out. I do have a ton of stuff that I wish I had seen before I went to photograph it that I would have corrected. I'm starting to obsess about all the imperfections and mistakes. The more I look at it, the more I only see the mistakes. But it's already sent. I like their sweaters and scarves though.

M or Two Girls Holding Hands

PS: Photographs in a studio costs so much - around 2 leva a photo. If I were to photgraph all my pictures in a studio I'd go broke. Oh wait, I am broke.

thank you. XD
I don't know how they start out in Parsons, but the short while I was in college, the first thing we had to draw in fashion drawing class was naked people. lol We had to draw 50 drawings. It helps immensely.

i think in foundation here they do fine arts stuff so it's like huge canvases or charcoal on paper. all of which i've never done!! we don't get naked people! i think those cost more. HAHAHA. we do have a russian model who comes in and poses in a swimsuit though. but you're right, i am learning a lot.

lol I took a few life drawing classes outside of the college. The principal was a Christian fanatic, so when the art teacher (her daughter) suggested we have a nude model, the principal went crazy and put her foot down: "Naked people in the school? No!" We just drew from a clothed model and a lot from photos and drawings we found.

But you should take advantage of life drawing classes. It's what I love about drawing. You're super focused and tense and yet you're so relaxed. I don't know, I can't explain it.
